A FILM BY NEXUS PRODUCTION GROUP

About the Film

Cats of Malta is a family-friendly documentary taking audiences on a journey through Malta's colourful cat colonies, cat cafes, parks and streets. Along the way meet the local feeders, artists and business owners whose lives are entwined and enriched by stray cats.

The heartfelt stories are engaging, entertaining, educational, and each will make you feel a rainbow of emotions. However, this is not fluffy cat film. Cats of Malta is a film that explores culture, humanity, compassion and the power of community spirit, while educating on the importance of responsible pet ownership and showcasing Malta as a cat-friendly tourist destination.

The film will broadcast on PBS stations throughout the US just in time for National Cat Day October 29th 2023 and has the potential to reach 1+ million viewers through this broadcast alone.

While the film is rooted in Malta, the stories of the islands community, the cats, plus the educational and tourism factors will resonate with young adults right through to the more mature audience member in the US, not just cat lovers due to relatable universal themes — the power community, animal companionship, mental health awareness and travel.

Malta is gorgeous and the scenery alone was wonderful, but of course the real stars are the cats and the people who so lovingly look after them. It’s a lovely film and I hope more people can watch it.

Endearing and heart-warming, Cats of Malta avoids being simply an extended YouTube video of cats frolicking by highlighting how members of the community are brought together by their love of these wily little creatures. From removing fishhooks from their greedy little mouths, to protecting new litters of kittens, their devotion is intoxicating and Portelli, thankfully, is there to capture it all.
